Oxbow SUP: Airhead Surf Diary

So you where thinking that I had forgotten about you ?? no chance.

I have not seen much of the water in the past six weeks…. doing the shop up and getting it back open has not given me much time but earlier this week I was dragged on to the water by a good mate telling me I need to….. so it was the perfect excuse to try the 10 ft x 30 inch Oxbow SUP.

Oxbow 10 foot sup paddle board
Oxbow SUP

First impressions are that this board feels bigger than 10ft and I guess that this is because that it is 30 inches wide but saying that it still paddled very well over distance but felt loose and moved very well….. as with most of my sessions it was on flat water but this board gave every sign that it would respond well on a wave no matter what size, big or small.

“This is what BIC say’s about the 2008 Oxbow SUP’S”

The 10’0” Sup is all about wave riding with maximum maneuverability. Not so different with regard to volume compared to the 11’0” it may be 1ft shorter but it packs its volume in its significantly increased width, this gives a board that’s more maneuverable when riding waves without any loss of stability when stationary. The 11’0” is more of an all-round cruiser. It likes to paddle in straight lines and does so well and quick with its significantly longer waterline length, giving a faster and better tracking board for paddling distance. If flat water cruising with the ability to encounter a few waves is your need, then check out the 11’0”.

This is the spec on the board:
10′ SUP (Left)
Max. Dimensions: 10″ x 29.5″ x 4.1″
Nose Dimensions: 21″
Tail Dimensions: 16.4″
Deck Glassing: 2 x 6oz.
Bottom Glassing: 1 x 6oz. with 1 x 6oz. fin patch
Finish: Gloss
Fins: 9′ Fiberglass Center Fin w/ FCS G5 side-bites
Shaper: Shane Stedman

Personally I would like to get this board out in the waves…. when I do I will come back with some more info.

When I get out on the water…… more from the Airhead real soon

What is the orifice in the Oxbow’s bottom, just above the fin box? someone told me it is an overpresure valve. However, does it has a plugged one way valve?
took the board out today, 4-6 clean and it tursns great as well as fast thru the closing sections

  6. Andy Says:

    Hey Jose….

The whole is to release the pressure if its hot or cold and you should have a screw in plug you need to use every session to stop water going in….

Let us know how you get on

    Ride safe

    Andy
